The interval before the process.
The interval before the process.
Supplemental staff training designed to sit alongside your district’s threat assessment model, not replace it.
The gap
Everything a threat assessment process governs begins once someone decides a situation is serious enough to raise. This work covers the minutes before that: what a staff member who is already in the situation does, with nothing but voice and behavior.
Who it’s for
Front office staff at the counter · Teachers at pickup · Bus drivers · Counselors · Coaches and event staff
How it works
Conduct, not appearance. The trigger is behavioral mismatch: someone doing what people in this setting don’t do. Observable, articulable, and defensible afterward.
The right tool at the right time. Every de-escalation tool has a documented way of backfiring. The skill is choosing correctly under pressure.
A defined stopping rule. Staff learn when to disengage and hand off, instead of working a situation past the point where talking helps.
Built on repetitions. A trained skill, practiced through realistic scenarios rather than delivered as a lecture.
What it is not
Not a threat assessment model. Not tactical or physical training. Not a substitute for your state’s required threat assessment training.
Formats
In-person staff sessions by role · Train-the-trainer licensing for district trainers · Tiers scaled to headcount
